All told, he has more than 30 years of experience in Texas’ criminal justice system – knowledge and insight that he now uses to vigorously defend our clients.
Robert’s career began in 1991 at the Houston Police Department, where he started off as a patrol officer. He advanced quickly and, three years later, was promoted to homicide detective. Over the next seven years, he investigated nearly 200 murder cases.
While working in homicide, Robert also began pursuing a legal career. He began attending South Texas College of Law in Houston part-time, graduating in 2002 with a law degree.
In 2003, Robert was hired as an assistant district attorney at the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office in Fort Worth.
Over the next 18 years, Robert served as a criminal prosecutor in numerous courts and units, including juvenile, gang and law enforcement investigations. In 2015, he was promoted to chief and was responsible for supervising court teams. As a prosecutor, Robert tried more than 50 cases, half of which were murder and capital murder cases.
Robert now uses his police and prosecutorial background on the other side of the docket. His first-hand knowledge of police training, procedures and investigations helps identify issues that we work to our clients’ advantage. As a former prosecutor, he knows how the other side thinks and develops strategies to produce the most favorable outcome possible for our clients.
Robert works with the other partners on the firm’s most serious and high-profile cases, including those involving police officers and public officials. The clients at Varghese Summersett are fortunate to have Robert’s expertise in their corner.
