      Katie Steele

      Senior Counsel

Katie Steele serves as Senior Counsel in Varghese Summersett’s Personal Injury Division, where she represents clients who have suffered catastrophic injuries and families of wrongful death victims. Katie has a deep understanding of personal injury law and is dedicated to obtaining justice and compensation for people whose lives have been upended by unexpected and devastating events.

Katie represents victims in a wide range of personal injury cases, including car wrecks, trucking accidents, workplace injuries, dangerous products, and premises liability claims. Katie is a passionate advocate known for her relentless pursuit of justice and her commitment to guiding clients through every step of the legal process with compassion and expertise.

Katie has worked on both sides of personal injury law, giving her a unique perspective and strategic advantage in handling complex cases. Before joining Varghese Summersett, she represented insurance companies, which equipped her with invaluable insight into how they operate. This dual experience allows Katie to anticipate insurance company tactics and effectively counter them in both negotiation and litigation.

Her in-depth understanding of how insurers strategize gives her clients a distinct edge, ensuring that their claims are not only thoroughly prepared but also positioned for maximum compensation. Combined with her tenacity and legal acumen, Katie is an exceptional attorney who fights tirelessly to secure the best possible outcome for her clients.

      Background

Katie grew up in Colleyville, where she graduated from Grapevine High School. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and her law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law.

Katie started her legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office, where she spent six years prosecuting thousands of criminal cases. The knowledge and trial experience she gained as a criminal lawyer positioned her perfectly for personal injury law.

After working in personal injury defense, Katie realized her true passion was helping victims, not protecting billion-dollar corporations. This shift led her to join Varghese Summersett, where she now fights for injury victims. Her extensive courtroom experience as a former prosecutor, coupled with her deep understanding of insurance defense tactics, makes her an exceptionally skilled and formidable advocate, dedicated to securing justice and maximum compensation for her clients.

Outside of work, Katie enjoys spending time with her husband, young daughter, and a lively assortment of farm animals, including two donkeys, three alpacas, and four goats. A skilled horsewoman and breeder, she is equally at home in the courtroom and on the ranch.
