Most criminal cases never see a jury, because most criminal defense lawyers won't take one to a jury. We do. We have. Over 700 times. That's the difference prosecutors notice.
Choose the courthouse where your case is pending — our attorneys practice across Tarrant, Dallas, and Harris Counties.
Trial-ready defense from former Tarrant County prosecutors — state, federal & juvenile charges.
Aggressive representation across Dallas County courts — felonies, misdemeanors & appeals.
Harris County defense built for high-stakes charges — from arrest through trial.
Criminal defense isn't one thing. The right next step depends on what's already happened, and what hasn't.
You or someone with you was just taken in. The clock starts now. The first 48 hours shape everything that follows.
What to do first →They're in jail. You need to know about bond, charges, and what they should not say. We can talk you through it tonight.
Call us now →A detective called. A subpoena arrived. A search warrant was served. Hire counsel before charges are filed, not after.
Pre-charge defense →Charges are filed. You have a setting. You either have a lawyer you don't trust, or no lawyer at all. Both are fixable.
Switch counsel →Misdemeanor to capital felony. State court to federal court. Each category links to a deeper guide with the elements, penalties, defenses, and case examples.
We have 10 criminal defense lawyers. Three are Board Certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Two more are Board Certified in Juvenile Law. Half our criminal team holds a Board Certification, a credential held by fewer than 10% of Texas attorneys overall.
Several of our lawyers are former prosecutors. They know how cases get built, and where they break.
And we are, above everything else, trial lawyers. Plea bargains exist because trials happen. Prosecutors negotiate differently with firms that will actually pick a jury.
Most criminal defense firms in Texas refuse to discuss fees on their website. We don't. Below is what representation typically costs at Varghese Summersett, charged as flat fees, not hourly billing. You'll know what defending your case costs before you sign anything.
Consultations are free and confidential. Payment plans are available on most matters.
The decisions made in the first two days set the trajectory of the entire case. Here's how it should go.
Do not give a statement. Do not consent to a search. Do not try to "explain." Invoke your right to a lawyer and stop talking, politely but absolutely.
Before you say anything else, before bond, before a magistration appearance, call. We answer 24/7. Early counsel changes what gets charged, what gets said, and what bond looks like.
Call Now →With counsel involved at magistration, the bond amount can sometimes be reduced and unreasonable conditions, like no-contact orders or alcohol monitoring, can be challenged before they're imposed.
Save texts, call logs, surveillance, witness names, and timelines. Evidence disappears fast. The defense investigation starts before the prosecution's does, and that posture is exactly what produces the better resolution short of trial.

Actual Case Results · Varghese Summersett
Some cases are won in front of a jury, some before an indictment is ever returned, and some by reading the State's evidence more carefully than the State did. Every case below is a real matter our attorneys handled and resolved for an actual client of this firm. These are Varghese Summersett's own results, not hypotheticals, not industry examples, and not another firm's work. Identifying client details have been removed.
Jury Trial on a 25-to-Life Charge: Not Guilty on Both Counts
For most of this case the State's offer was 30 to 40 years in prison. On the eve of trial it became probation on a reduced charge, with lifetime sex offender registration attached. Our client turned both down, and we tried the case. The State was allowed to bring in a second accuser, and a bond issue put our client in custody partway through trial, in front of the jury. What the jury also saw was how little investigating had been done. The lead detective admitted he never sought a search warrant, never pulled the surveillance video from the home, and never went to the house.
Result Varghese Summersett obtained: not guilty on both counts.
Felony Strangulation Allegation Ended Without an Indictment
The arrest rested on one person's description of a domestic argument. What no one else in the case knew was that our client had recorded video of it. We found that video, preserved it, and compared it with the written police report and then let the complaining witness watch it. On a recording, she agreed that her report reflected how she had perceived the moment, not what the video showed. A case that looked like a strangulation felony on paper looked very different on camera.
Result Varghese Summersett obtained: the grand jury returned a no-bill. No indictment and no felony prosecution.
Registration Felony and Probation Revocation Both Dismissed
The State's case was an absence. No call to schedule our client's annual registration update appeared in the department's phone log, so officers obtained a warrant and arrested him at home. A missing log entry can show that a call was not recorded. It cannot show that a person made no effort to comply. Our client said he had gone to the station in person weeks earlier and spoken with a specific officer, and two different officers had recorded him telling that same account on body camera, naming the same officer each time. We used that against the new charge and the revocation at once.
Result Varghese Summersett obtained: the felony registration charge was dismissed and the petition to revoke probation was dismissed as well. No plea and no new supervision.
An accusation is not a conviction. Past results do not guarantee future outcomes, and every case depends on its own facts.
