Overview of  Varghese Summersett Autism Scholarship

Amount: $500
Deadline: April 1, 2024
Notification Date: April 15, 2024

Approximately 1 in 59 children are affected by autism, making it the fastest-growing developmental disorder. It is also often associated with another disorder. Autism affects development in the brain, and if diagnosed early on, those affected can have a better quality of life. This is why the attorneys at Varghese Summersett PLLC are proud to announce our annual Autism Scholarship to honor a cause that is near and dear to our hearts. Two of our criminal attorneys both have children with disabilities and in an effort to recognize and honor them, we are offering this scholarship.

This scholarship is intended to assist a deserving autistic child who is in need of financial aid for educational or recreational opportunities. The award may be used towards a camp, tutoring, education, or other tools to help the student progress and live a fulfilling, happy life.

Eligibility for Varghese Summersett Autism Scholarship

To be eligible, applicants must be 15 years old or younger and diagnosed with autism. All applications must be submitted by the deadline of April 1, 2024.

How to Apply

  1. Letter or Video Describing Financial Need: Have a parent, friend, relative, or teacher must prepare a letter or video describing how the financial award would benefit them. We are specifically looking for what the award will be used for. We know the overall needs are far greater than the award, so the more specific you can be about how this would benefit the child, the more helpful this item will be.
  2. Recommendation Letter or Video: Get at one letter (or video) of recommendation. The letter can be from a teacher, employer, friend, sibling, or community leader. They should attest to the applicant’s character, ability, and need for financial aid for educational or recreational opportunities. For example, a grandmother could write a letter on behalf of her autistic granddaughter who could benefit from an iPad or a summer camp. Any videos are judged on the content, not production quality. Videos may not exceed 5 minutes.
  3. Photo: Applicants must submit a photo of the student and agree to allow Varghese Summersett PLLC to use his/her name, photo, video, letter, and/or story on our website.

To apply, submit all three items (Financial Need Letter or Video, Recommendation Letter or Video, and Photo) by email to christi@versustexas.com with the subject line “[Applicant Name] – Autism Scholarship”.

Application Deadline

All scholarship criteria must be submitted on or before April 1, 2024. Applications sent after the April 1st deadline will not be considered.
